Laser Pointer for cnc plasma torch
A laser pointer (or laser crosshair) on a CNC plasma table is used
to precisely locate the plasma torch, align materials, and verify the cut path before firing the plasma torch.
It serves as a visible, non-cutting reference point that allows the operator to map out where the plasma torch will cut, ensuring accuracy and reducing material waste.
Primary Uses and Benefits
- Locating the Start Point (Zeroing): The laser allows the operator to see exactly where the software's "X0, Y0" coordinates align on the physical metal sheet.
- Material Alignment (Skew Adjustment): If a sheet of metal is not perfectly square to the table, the laser can be used to locate two points on the edge of the metal. The software then rotates the program to match the physical orientation of the sheet.
- Dry Run/Path Verification: The laser can be turned on to run the program without cutting, allowing the operator to verify that the part fits on the metal and will not cut off the edge or into clamps.
- Increased Efficiency: It speeds up the setup process, particularly for using remaining scrap metal, by making it easier to place small parts in empty areas of a sheet
